It’s old news that the video game industry has completely blown past both the movie and music industries in the US. So there really should be no shame in saying that a lot of my own writing was originally directly inspired by video games. But what’s that one quote that so often gets repeated and changed? Oh yeah. “Good artists borrow; great artists steal.” Yay! Legitimized and vindicated in one fell swoop.

This particular short story was written as a trial for a project I was doing for The Repopulation (https://www.therepopulation.com/), a sci-fi MMO currently in beta but soon-to-be-released. The contents were under NDA until just a few months ago, when that agreement was lifted and much of the game content became publicly accessible per the game designers. I believe some of the original world timeline that I based this story on may have changed since then, but the sci-fi spirit remains!All Rights Reserved

A small group of strangers find themselves surviving in a decimated world. It's bad enough to be stranded in a no-name town, but things become surreal when you realize the vast majority of humanity has died...it becomes terrifying when you realize you aren't that lucky to be alive. "Survivor's Guilt" isn't a thing when you find yourself the sole food source for an entire group of beings that no longer need to hide in the shadows. Man is no longer at the top of the food chain...they are now the cattle.

He possesses the rare and not so sought after lightning element, considered the weakest element for certain reasons, pitied and looked down upon Jack is determined to become a successful monster hunter in a more and more dangerous world. A slow burn story with world building, dungeon delving, character progression, Litrpg elements and more. WARNING - The MC is not a Mary Sue, he is not super competent, or super powerful or super intelligent nor a paragon of virtue, just a normal guy in a not so normal situation and him growing to deal with it in his own way.
