Benjamin prefers Rachel. Rachel prefers Michael who finds her worthy of marriage, but problems arise. Rachel becomes mother to Keith and Jessica, but dies from unknown problems not accurately diagnosed following Keith’s unexpected death. Our story’s narratives clarify many of life's common conundrums and creates none. Benjamin clings to old family Carolinian piedmont values. His older sister Lottie Jane and her husband John Marshall Hardin do the same with success. John Marshall’s heritage is mixed with wealthy Virginians and pioneering Carolinians. He’s unaware that his wife and her brother are within his family’s lineage. Can problems with mixed gender differences and moral values be resolved? God is in the details, but he is at times eclipsed beyond recognition. This happens when sexual intimacy is separated from its original designs of pleasure and procreation. God’s presence is excluded when some characters center upon selfish passions exploited by overpowering evil forces. Some reject old family values, and by doing this reject the presence of God in life. Character formation, the resilient power of the unique human spirit, family relationships, and community forces remain essential in the development of every person, which means that all people can relate to our story’s narratives. This book appeals to all ages in both genders past puberty, because it captures existential elements of deep emotional, physical, mental and spiritual struggles for meaning in life common throughout America. Keeping watch (Latin, "Gregorio") is our theme, because existential life experiences are the exquisite core elements for essential living and eternal life.
