13-year-old Ellie Goulding has quite a lot going on in her life. She watched her aunt die right in front of her, she can turn into a fox (without her own consent,) she has a huge crush on one of her best friends, and ...she knows a dragon? It started during a quiet night, when Ellie heard the most mighty roar she had ever heard. Then there was the field trip to London, where she heard voices in the forest, and saw a large shadow. Then there was the song and the fountain with the words "Dedicated to Dragonscale on it." Then there was the hidden lair in the woods. She was on a walk with her friend Adam in the deepest woods of Lyonshall, then they fell through a trap door and discovered the lair of Dragonscale.

"Do you remember calling me 'mate?'" he asked softly, pushing her wild curls away from her face. She blushed deeply, but he wouldn't let her look away. "You heard that?" He nodded with a smile.
