Amber is the type of girl that has big dreams but doesn't have a supportive family. It's not that her family doesn't have enough money but they are too busy focusing on her brother Jordan. He's a big basketball star and that's all that her parents care about.

August is the type of dude that has had one tough past and he lets it affect his present and future. He doesn't believe that there is anything outside of life except for drugs and running the streets. With a family that struggles and growing up way too fast in life that's all he knows anyways.
