The Comedown

Delilah Carmichael loved cars. Ever since she was young, and her dad taught her how to fix them up. And the thing she loved most is what became her downfall. Her dad died when she was 15, from liver disease. Seeing him like that for the last few weeks was the hardest thing she ever had to endure. Her mother was a pill abuser. Her father had an inheritance that went to her when she was to become 16 and 6 months of age. He knew his wife had changed, and did all he could during his last days, to make sure his little girl didn’t have to suffer through her mother’s misery and cruelty.
When she came of age, she got the money and took off. She decided to lay low until her seventeenth birthday. Because at 17 she was legally an adult and would be able to register for school. During the six months she “laid low”, she joined a street racing team. They called her “The Executioner” because she executed her moves on the road flawlessly. And later the name had been shortened to “X”. She was well known. A little too well known. One month before her birthday, a racing meet she was at, had been busted. Everyone got in their cars and hauled ass for fear of being arrested. A girl had been left behind and her ride too far gone to turn back. Delilah took pity on her and tried to escape with her as well. She took too much time going back for the girl, and ended up being caught.
