And something bad does happen when Emmi is kidnapped, and it is no one's fault but Charlotte's. Through this obligation alone, Charlotte feels like it is her responsibility to get Emmi back, to right her wrong. In helping Nate pursue his kidnapped daughter, Charlotte inadvertently allows herself to feel again, to care for those other than herself. But with the clock ticking, Charlotte's new found family may just end up like her own, dead and destroyed, if Emmi is exposed to the disease that her father tried so hard to protect her from.

In the United States, a new disease has surfaced and has a fatality rate of 100%. There is no medicine which can cure this disease. The disease destroys the body from the inside, causing organs to burst, poisons bloodstreams, shuts down vital organs, causes the bones to crystallize and in severe cases, welcomes in the other diseases. The only way to fight such a disease is through the power of will. Only the will to survive can best the disease, causing it to slowly go away as the body fights back. As the victim wants to survive and fights the disease, the better chance they have. But, everyone who has caught the disease gives up hope, and dies a slow and brutal death. This disease is known as Stigma X, or STX. Meet Ashley Reynolds, an 18 year-old girl, who is a senior in high school. Ashley comes from a family who grants her nothing but misery, and hates her very existence. When Ashley caught the disease at the end of her freshman year, the rejoicing coming from Ashley's family caused her heart to falter, and soon found herself welcoming death. For her senior year, Ashley moves into her aunts mansion in order for Ashley to live the life every child deserves. There, Ashley encounters new friends and a guy who has changed her outlook on life. However, the disease inside of Ashley is starting to eat away at her, and the attacks from it causing her excruciating pain. But when the past comes back to haunt and enemies come to fight, the apocalypse may just become almost impossible to survive. Brains and brawn may not be enough. It takes heart to make it day to day. They knew it would be hard. They didn't know it would be next to impossible to survive. This is a story my friend and I wrote together. It took us about a year to complete.
