" Tess escaped the crowd and gasped as she looked up at the make-shift stage. A young girl was standing on it- her dress ragged from pulls and tugs, her hands tied behind her and wild long hair falling on her back- with a hangman's noose around her neck. She was sitting straight; chin up as she stared at the mob gathered in front of her. As she was studying the crowd, her dark eyes locked with Tess's. They silently stared at each other, as if in a trance, the girl's eyes seeming to pierce deep inside Tess.
Her gaze had a bold and confident air as she stared in Tess's puzzled and bewitched eyes, trapped in the girl's mesmerizing eyes. The girl's lip curled up slightly.
"Pull!" Someone shouted, and the lever was pulled, the girl suddenly falling through the hatch in the floor of the scene."
The witch of Greenville- everyone says it's only a tale, but why does she haunt Tess's dreams?
