Everything was too much for him. He wanted to end it all. After all the pain he suffered, he was going to end it by his own hand.
Newt tried to kill himself in the earlier days of the Maze, that is painfully well known. However, he only confessed it to Thomas just before his life ended. What was that like for Newt? How did it unfold, and how did it change the the Gladers and life as they knew it?

Small cuts and bruises which could be felt by the other person weren't an issue. It was when WICKED chose to begin putting people in the maze, putting their lives at stake, causing them to endure more than just physical pain was when things became dangerous.
