Shailene Langley is just like every other sixteen year-olds. She goes to school every day and live just like everyone else. But she has four problems that most teenagers don't have.

When she one night is out with her friend and a storm miraculously saved her from a young man with bad intentions, Shay quickly realizes that it wasn't normal. When it then happens again, she knows for sure that she made the storm appear. She needs to know how it is possible for her to create storms, under what circumstances it is possible and what she is.

As if this isn't enough, her father starts acting strange and suspiciously. He's more distant than usual and rarely gives Shay any attention anymore.

The Logan family, who has just moved to town, isn't normal, and she feels the need to find out what their secret is. If they're like her, they might have the answer to all of the questions that circles in her head.

And then there's Kane. Mysterious, sexy, dark, annoying and foreign. For some reason he keeps making contact with Shay when everyone else tries to distance themselves as much as possible. As much as he annoys Shay, he is so unbelievably intriguing and she just can't bring herself to stay away...
