Teresa Thorborn puts the word genius to shame. Having obtained her PhD in microbiology by the age of twenty, she's amassed a wealth of knowledge, but one subject still eludes her - people. The pendulum of passions experienced by those around her both confuses and intrigues her, so when she's offered a grant to study emotion as a pathogen, she jumps on the opportunity.

When her attempts to come up with an actual experiment quickly drop from lackluster to nonexistent, she's given a choice: figure out how to conduct a groundbreaking study in passion, or lose both the grant and her position at the university. Put on leave until she can crack the perfect proposal, she finds there's only one way she can study emotions: by experiencing them herself.

Enter Calum Hood, Teresa's neighbor and the one person on the planet she finds strangely and maddeningly appealing. Calum's life is the stuff of campus legend, messy, emotional, complicated - in short, the perfect starting point for Teresa's study. When her tenaciousness wears him down and he continents to help her, sparks fly. To her surprise, Teresa finds herself battling with her own emotions, as foreign as they are intense. With the clock ticking on her deadline, Teresa must decide what's more important: analyzing her passions... Or giving into them?

Elena and Cara Morales are the infamous twins of Mark Morales - the governor of California. Now, while they both may be related, like most twins, they couldn't be any more different. Elena was seen as an elite, social butterfly - she's kissed more boys than she can count on her fingers, she's taken part in tons of high school clubs and groups, she has a never-ending list of friends as well as a never-ending amount of Twitter followers, and not to forget, she had the bassist of band 5 Seconds of Summer wrapped around her finger. Yeah, she was dating Calum Hood. Cara was nothing but mediocre - nothing that could even somewhat be compared to her twin. She was ordinary and indifferent and was a half-melted scoop of vanilla ice cream amongst a ton of other wild and unheard of flavors. Kissing (unless it was the asses of her teachers), Popularity, Boys, and Fun weren't words she was familiar with in the slightest - she was outcasted, canceled out. Simple as that. After Elena suddenly goes missing and a secret search party is sent out to look for her, Cara is asked to finally put herself to good use by participating in what they called The Replacement Project. She was to play the role of her sister in order to save the reputation of her family, knowing that if the public were to find out the governor of California actually allowed his daughter to go missing, the entire family would collapse into a pile of ash. It was a solid plan - nobody would suspect a thing. There was only one, underlying rule - don't fall in love with the boy who wasn't really yours to begin with.

[AU] "I've had a crush on you since middle school and you still have the same effect on me." "Calum, I'm-I..." I trail off. "...didn't know," he finishes my sentence. "I know," he assures me, "I've never had the balls to tell you," he says, regret in his voice. ××× Devin Carter is back in her home town for the summer to pursue her dream internship at a high end magazine. Calum Hood has had a crush on her since middle school, but never succeeded in anything due to Devin's relationship as well as his own insecurities. Devin is determined to stay focused on her internship rather than focus on boys for the summer. Calum, on the other hand, is only focused on winning her over. A highly unexpected encounter on her first night back sends the ball rolling, making the two break rules as well as slowly bring them closer together... Enough to stir up drama as well as new or existing emotions.
