Mariella doesn't really have friends. Her family is pretty non-existent as well. And that's where Silas comes in, with no memory no past and no real substance. People don't notice Silas, and once they do they tend to forget him extremely rapidly. In exception of Mariella of course. Quite frankly it's a match made in heaven; Silas is willing to listen and Mariella is more than happy to talk until she can no more.
