Coma is a state of consciousnesses that is similar to deep sleep, except no amount of external stimuli can prompt the brain to become awake or alert.
The persons recovery depends on the cause and severity of the coma.
There may be a complete recovery with no loss of brain functioning, or there may be lifelong brain damage.
That was just the definition.
But one thing no one knew was when he would awake.

There is no awareness, emotion, or consciousness in death. While the body may remain physically present, it begins to decompose as its systems break down. Death marks the conclusion of an organism's existence in the physical world, leaving behind memories, legacies, and a void where life once was.
