The most prominent difference, at first, was the newfound and unwelcome irregularity of my sleeping pattern. I was concerned in the beginning, however I did not feel the necessity to go to a doctor. Not that I could, if I wished it. Concern evolved into curiosity, during which I attempted to determine the cause of my insomniac tendencies. Stress was what I found to be most likely, however even during the witching hour, when I lie in a comfortable bed with my mind clear and my body relaxed, sleep would not come. Curiosity became frustration. During the day I was not exhausted, and I felt no fatigue. I was physically unharmed by this alteration, however it left my mind disturbed; if one no longer needed to breathe, they should still be left unsettled, as so basic a necessity was removed so abruptly without any clue as to why. There was no discernible explanation as to why this was happening to me. I soon discovered several other minute changes to my person, accumulating little by little over the course of the coming weeks. There was never any reason for me to be concerned, in the beginning. My arm was disinfected and stitched up cleanly, as I had been taught to do. Having lived here all my life, I knew there was no cause for alarm. After all, animal attacks happen all the time.
