Gabriella Smith has always been considered the World's Best Friend-but giving her all in a friendship has not done her any favors. Gabby's first and closest best friend, Cayden McDaniel, moved away after a small fight, taking a piece of her heart with him.
Finally, two years later, Gabby puts her lost friend and first love, behind her and tries to move on without Cayden in the picture, along with the help of her new best friend, Kyrie. Just as she let go of the hope that one day he would come back to her, Cayden appears back in the picture, and oh did he mention he is famous now? He claims to have been too busy with his band, Broken Roads, for the last few years, to contact her. Some best friend he is.
Pushing all her hurt aside and hoping that he is still the boy she fell in love with, she gives him one more chance, knowing that her heart is on the line once again. But she didn't expect Bradin Fields-the gorgeous, popular, ladies' man, with a secret side to him-to step into the picture. Gabriella soon finds out that everyone changes, and sometimes it's not for the best and that there are two sides to every story, or every person...and that love is unexpected.

My head was a fuzzy mess. Never again would I mix vodka, gin, and tequila into one shot. And it was all because of one guy. One very stupid guy that I stupidly fell for. Nick Cauldron. 23-year-old, Natalie Atkins has never been in love or in a relationship for that matter. She's spent most of her life in books, reading about them. When she moves out to Los Angeles, she hopes that her luck will change, and she will finally get to live out her fantasy of falling in love. She starts working as a teacher by day and ridesharing at night to make ends meet. Nothing seems to be going as planned as she doesn't get to meet anyone while at school and most of the people she's had as ridesharing customers were either couples, old folks, or college kids drunk off their asses. Then enters Nick, a guy who seems to be a dream come true and who she shares a very great conversation with while ridesharing. He says how he is a musician and how she should come to the Blue Velvet Lounge where his band performs. She goes and finds he is a very talented singer and guitarist. She swoons for him after his performance, and they have drinks afterwards. Just as she thinks he is going to kiss her, he doesn't. Instead, he says she's not his type and would rather just be friends. This stings at first especially as she sees him go after a girl much more alluring than she is. Benji, his bandmate and best friend, tells her it's not worth it, that every girl he gets involved with is only for a hot minute and then he's on to the next one. She asks how she can get him interested in her to which he says to not care about him and move on to the next guy. But she says she's never felt this way about a guy before and Benji says he has an idea. Since Nick is his best friend, he'll turn her into the perfect catch.
