He had been hoping to find a special someone here. Hoping they'd pass the fence of the carnival and, by some funny coincident, they'd see him and he would see them.
And he would wave at them with the brightest smile he could manage to fake, in hopes of making them come again. Then they'd start talking after a few days of just passing by each other. He'd hope that they manage to make him happy again, that the would take the pain away.
But most of all...
He wanted them to stay.

He began to sing. Like he always did when he wasn't in the mood to do anything else, which happened a lot lately.
