A demon decides to leave Hell but is really, really bad at it.
Terminal is about Mannie Ávila, an egotistical and gossip-loving, but low-ranked, demon who decides they've had enough of Hell, and heads off- only to stumble upon a shaky, surely doomed plan by the higher ups to pursue peace with Heaven (and the murderous angels who lurk there).
Terminal stands on its own, but is part of a series (all written) about mental illness, friendship, self-destruction... and uh, jokes. The urban fantasy 'secret city' world is a little bit silly and doesn't take itself too seriously, while still weaving stories about horrible people trying to change, and often failing. Plus some good ol' political satire to liven things up.
First book in a trilogy, followed by Radicle.

"This is an Angel girl named Maisie Lark. She hasn't ever stepped foot into the 'real world'. Attempting to break the lock is useless and I have the key. I've extended the olive branch. Cecilia Star has been alive long enough to know what it's like to be a demon in the human realm, but she's also been alive long enough to cope with her everyday life. But it doesn't take Cecilia and Maisie long to realize that the handcuff prank is a little more than just a lighthearted joke. The thing about Demon metal is that it is a fickle thing. It can only be unlocked by the person who has the key and no matter what method is used, it cannot be broken. Cecilia would rather just forget the whole thing, refuse to give Ezekiel the satisfaction he so wants, and remain handcuffed to Maisie for the rest of her life. It doesn't take long to realize that it's just not possible. Maisie is everything that she shouldn't be in the human realm. Bigoted, rude, and annoyingly difficult. Although she isn't completely anxiety ridden and still wants friends, it's hard for her since she can't speak. Satan meets her opposite, a girl named Angel. Angel is an outgoing and talkative person, looking to find friends in a new school. Satan and Angel become friends, Angel teaching her sign. They eventually lead to something more, which seems to cause more than it should.
