They say the last one you see will be the one to guide you through the darkness of life, be it nighttime, plain dark or the road to death.
They told Gerard he was lucky that he got to know the last one he saw before that falling of glass rendered him blind.
But maybe it was just Gerard's luck that the one to guide him wasn't his brother, but that one stranger in Italy that he had jumped in to save, that one stranger in Italy he could not forget.
