What if after saving Edward from the Volturi, Bella left on the first plane out, and didn't wait for the sun to set so Edward couldn't follow her? ... Bella was afraid that she would feel pain even more than she has already experienced, so when they told them to wait until sundown Bella saw a chance to protect her heart, so she left Edward in Italy, and for a while he didn't follow her. So Bella continues to walk around Forks pretending everything is okay, but when she's alone she still has the dreams of being abandoned, the feeling of her heart being ripped out, and the Volturi almost killing Edward because of her stupid mistake. She blocked herself off so that nobody can hurt her ever again , she'll just deal with the pain every day and try to move on . But when the Cullen's come back Bella worries about them seeing through her built up exterior, and possibly breaking her walls down once again. This time Bella fights it, she knows that hey don;t really want her in their world, so she'll do everything in her power to get out of it again.
