Its the day prior to the battle at Gettysburg. Violet (Walter's daughter) is scared to let her dad go to battle. (Well any four year old would.) Once her dad dies on the last day of the battle at Gettysburg Violets life gets (in one word) bizzare. She sees thing and when she trys to tell people about them, they don't believe her.
