Sixteen year old Fawn knows nothing of her life before the Forest of Memories. She lives by herself with the strange ability to morph into any animals she chooses, which she gained when her six year old self wandered into the forest. She knows of no other human beings that live in the Forest, except for maybe the Queen of Shadows, whose magic leaves strange sarcastic notes scrawled in the mud (that has healing powers, Fawn has no idea why)... that is, before Aspen arrives. He has the ability to control plants, or like he says, "request them to do what he wants". He had just arrived in the forest, and also remembers nothing of his past. But both of them so know one thing - the Queens messages were getting more and more frequent, often with somber meanings, and they were the only ones that could put a stop to it.
