Ember, a wolf who just popped up the middle of a forest get adopted by a pack of two, where the alpha male, Wolf is kind and accepts her easily and his mate, Cinder treats Ember as if she were diseased meat. But she struggles through. Later finds her own mate that Wolf doesn't approve of and he must try to convince Wolf he is worthy of joining the pack.

All the wolves surrounded the tree, growling and jumping up trying to get to me. One of the wolves jumped up high enough to the branch that I'm on. I hissed an clawed at him, hitting his snout. The wolf whimpered from the claw mark I left him and growled at me. Then they all went quiet and looked behind them. I followed their gaze. That's when I seen him.
