I have been accused of many things in my life: murderer, traitor, master of the dark arts. I admit to being well-versed in the dark arts. I had my reasons, as do all who take a wrong turn on the winding path of life’s experiences. I learned to embrace the darkness. She was light to my darkness. She saw clearly, where others only saw shadows. The followers of the crucified god speak of looking “through a glass darkly.” Not her. She never saw through that glass darkly. For the first time in my life, I also saw as I thought through that glass clearly. I knew, from the first moment I saw her, from the first time we accidentally touched, that she would be my damnation. Little did I know that glass was clouded, as she would also be my salvation.

I thought I knew my world. The people in it, the secrets they held, their intentions. . . Turns out I didn't have a clue. They lie and deceive and manipulate you without you knowing. You let your guard down around the people you trust the most, only to have them stab you in the back. Some say ignorance is bliss, but I say ignorance is death. Because not knowing things gets you killed.
