Sa kabila ng masamang imahe ng bilangguan, umasa si Emerald na ligtas siyang makalalabas. Sinabi kasi mismo ng kasintahang si Gerad na ang kulungan ay hindi talaga lungga ng mga leon kundi isang lugar na nagtuturo at nagbibigay ng pag-asa sa mga kriminal.
 Ngunit sa kanyang pagpasok, malalaman niya na ang pag-asang iyon ay isa lamang kasinungalingan. 
Madarama niya sa loob ang kalupitan ng mundo.
Matitikman niya rin ang di pagkakapantay-pantay. Sa loob din ay makikilala niya si Nikela, isang lalaki na magtuturo sa kanya na muling umibig, subalit mararanasan lamang niya kung paano pigilan ang pag-ibig na iyon na nais niyang ipagsigawan.
