Cecilia Louise Carter is shy. She seriously hates standing in front of a crowd and tends to become very awkward in the presence of people she's never met before.

But when the world has undergone mass destruction with only one surviving island, no one really cares about wether someone likes something or not. Their main goal is surviving. Especially when minimal supplies isn't their only problem.

A small organization outside the watch of Isla has developed a serum that turns their people's hearts into stone, creating a soulless army. An army that is run by revenge, revenge for Isla. They have somehow managed to keep them out with a group of trained fighters.

The Flame is a group created within Isla to guard the border of the lone surviving island from the aggressive attacks of the Stone Hearted.

Yeah, no one cares that Cecilia Louise Carter is shy. Which is exactly why she has been chosen to work for Flame, to protect the island from the monstrous Stone Hearted.

"You have lost your mind, what the hell do you think you're doing?" She yells at me. "Don't start with me." "I'm not starting shit, Elijah! This was supposed to be a night out and then you come along, you ruin everything!" The anger on her voice isn't lost on me, I've never heard her this mad before and she is dangerously attractive with the wild look in her eyes and slightly open mouth. "You shouldn't even be here! What the fuck do you mean a night out, have you gone insane?" I raise my voice unintentionally and she looks even more crazed than she did before. "That's rich, coming from the jerk who almost killed a guy minutes ago!" ********* Elijah Black is her first love. He is her only love. Even three years after high school when both of them have gone separate ways, never talked again, she still thinks about him and scolds herself for it. They agreed to end things, they agreed to cut all ties, she isn't allowed to feel this way anymore. But she does. Dakota Moore is the name he refuses to mention, she is the girl he struggles to think about. Even three years after high school when both of them have gone their separate ways, never talked again, he still fears whenever someone brings her up in conversation and he hates it. She needed to get away from all the horrific things, they agreed to cut all ties, he can't fawn over her like this anymore. But he does. Two broken souls could mend each other, but the aspect of staying together was too much. Why couldn't things just be easy for them? Why couldn't they have their romance in peace? Loving someone is hard enough, but when the past catches up to you and the future traumatizes you, can you really focus on the mending of a broken relationship? I'm standing in the gateway to the larger ballroom, almost too far away for my weak eyes to see the three figures that glide onto the stage. The King and Queen walk side by side until they come to their thrones, the Prince walking about five feet behind and moving towards the smaller throne to the King's left. The King and Queen sit down on their thrones in unison. The Prince doesn't. Even I can see the way his shoulders are bristling, a sort of confused wonder dawning on his face. And I would swear he is looking directly at me. //// Lee Collins wants to help her sister, Lucy. She has a vision of a future away from their dad, where Lucy could be healthy and they would have some chance of happiness. When Lee's only friend helps her sneak into the royal ball on the minuscule chance that an attending doctor would be willing to help, Lee ends up fleeing the party early, chased by none other than her mate. Lee finds herself locked in from all sides, desperate to escape the suffocating implications of a mate but frantic to fight for a future for her sister that she still believes possible. Working in the Royal Palace to save escape money is a terrible idea when you have a controlling father, but it's an even worse idea when the mate that you're avoiding is the Prince. //Marked Mature just in case for violence. general trigger warning.
