Luke Cadence was abandoned by his drug addict mother when he was 4 years old. His mother dropped him off at a neighbor's house, that lived down the street and then took off and hasn't been seen since. The woman who was handed the baby was named Katherine Adams. She had two kids of her own, Gia Adams and Sebastian Adams. After years of recovering, when Luke was only 17, Katherine died of lung cancer. All by themselves, Gia, Sebastian and Luke have to figure out how to survive on their own. After a week and a half of searching for jobs with no success, Luke finds an ice cream shop not too far. On the other hand, Emma Rosewater is a middle class 16 year old, with both parents and her black lab Maxon. When Emma and her best friends have a sleepover to celebrate her 16th birthday, they rush over to the local ice cream shop and everything unfolds.
