My heart swelled at the sight of his tear filled eyes that twinkled with his love for me, but I couldn't accept his proposal; not after everything. I loved him, I did, but I was about to change everything, shatter everything he had known with a few simple words.
"No," I mumbled.
The wondrous look in his eyes vanished, replaced with grief. Then, his rough hands wrapped around my throat.
