A Turn in Events

Madeline gets nothing she wants. Her parents have been divorced for a year now and her mom has been recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She has never heard from her father and has no contact information. She lives in a poor town and lives in a small apartment building. Both she and her mom work at the local super market as cashiers and are on the verge of being on the street. They don't make enough to support themselves. But she meets someone in the market that goes to school with her. She has never spoken to him or made any sort of contact with him. Is this boy going to get in the way of her mother's feelings?
