Four years have passed since Yusuke Urameshi returned to Human World from Demon Realm.

Upon the crowning of King Enki, a proclamation was made that any demon caught causing havoc in the Human Realm would be severely punished.

And so, the King's orders were followed. A border patrol between the three realms had been established, and the old Makai barrier had been taken down.

Even though King Enki was popular among his people and his plan had the backing of King Yama, there were still many defected demons who would choose to violate the law and slip past border patrol into Human World. Consequently, a second Makai barrier had to be established. Even still, this was not enough to keep the threat of a demon invasion at bay for the residents of Human World.

Enter Romano Hideshi, a young man who had always aspired to be a police officer, who later died temporarily and became the world's fourth Spirit Detective.
