Every storykeeper has had someone to hand the secrets down to; a backup plan in case an ending ends up being their ending; an apprentice.
Being a storykeeper is dangerous work; but when Bridgette loses control in her search for assistance, only then does she learn it can be fatal.
Being alone means risking all the past generations of storykeepers and, more importantly, the chance of every story finding their ending. Having accompaniment means risking espionage.
