He let go of one of my hands and tilted my chin back. “Let’s make a oath…”

“A oath?” I asked curiously.

“Yes, a oath,” he repeated. “You must promise to be strong for me while I am over there, you must promise me that you will never lose hope in us, and you must promise me that you will believe that every second of the day that I will be thinking about you and know that I am coming home to you when this is all over.”

“I promise,” I replied. “You must promise me that you will write, and you must promise me that while you are over there, please be careful.”

He chuckled lightly. “I promise.”

This was the beginning of what Lilly and Lucas thought was going to be the rest of their lives. They thought they were going to get to wake up and spend every day together... but others had different plans. Lucas was scheduled to be deported over seas in one month. Making their oaths on their graduation day, they went out to have the best summer they could before he left. Only their oath was to keep them together while he was gone... can they keep their promises?

I pulled him close to me again, wrapping my arms around his waist while laying my head on his toned chest. ‘This was my oath to you Lucas… I only hope you come home to me.”

Leena Nur was wrapping up her senior year at Leading Senior High this summer and with that, her domestic duties were also coming to their end. High school was nothing to miss for Leena. Instead, it was the bridge between childhood and adulthood. For the entirety of her life, she had been stuck there, forbidden to cross. Leena was neither young and never close to being old enough for anything. She considered it the curse of being the youngest and only daughter of a traditional East African family. As the sole daughter of her doting parents, Leena was their pride, their joy and also...their live-in maid. She was the youngest sibling of four brothers and as if being surrounded by them every living moment was not enough, her relentless neighbor, and brother's best friend made sure to loiter around to make her life worse. It was fine, she told herself, since she was determined to move out soon because of it. She knew she was close to the freedom she had been stealing tiny licks of since forever. She was graduating and that meant something so, so important. College. New Friends. And most irrevocably exciting, boys. If her father had heard that, let alone her brothers, Leena would have been locked deep inside her closet-sized room. However, she was determined they never would because by that time, she'd already be far away in America with her potential soul-mate, sipping hot cocoa and wrapped in lovely scarves she knitted. All she desired now, was to get through the rest of her high school career quieter than a mouse and receive that acceptance letter from UCLA. She could do it. Right? If she could just evade that annoying neighbor of hers.

"Okay, then allow me to offer a pact." He says, immediately making me a mixture of terrified and suspicious. "You say that I'm a jerk; a bully. So, why not change that my way?" "I don't like where this is going-" I begin, but he cuts me off. "Just listen." He comes closer, seating himself next to me on the curb. "You've made me lose 3 hot dates, and in my books, that's unforgivable. There was Bunny, the girl at the party, the red headed girl from Geometry, and that Grateful Dead hippy chick from the parking lot." I start to feel uneasy, like Jake is going to make me do something I am not going to want to do. "I think that I deserve some fun." He suddenly notices my face and smirks. "Not that kind of fun." I let out a well-needed breath, not noticing that I was even holding my breath until now. "An agreement," He smiles widely, liking whatever he has come up with. "Here's the rules." He hands me a piece of paper that he was keeping in his jeans pocket. I unfold it and stare at the messy handwriting. Player's can- Sweet talk Play fight Talk 24/7 Tell each other good morning and good night every day Take walks together Give each other nicknames Hang out with each other's friends Go on dates Talk on the phone all night long Hold each other Kiss Hug And whoever falls in love first, loses (Nobody can be dating anyone during this agreement or else they automatically lose) (Winner gets the opposite player to do anything they want them to do)

UNEDITED! Will edit soon :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "What's going to happen?" I uttered, knowing he probably didn't hear me. "What do you mean? Happen to what?" he asked, running his hand through my hair and caressing my cheek sweetly. "To us?" I asked, feeling scared about the way he was going to respond. "What's going to happen?" I repeated my question but this time my voice gave away how worried I was. A single tear dropped onto Evan's palm and suddenly he had swept me up into his arms. I instinctively curled into a ball and hugged him tight, pressing my cheek against his chest and listening to his heart. "Nothing's going to happen Maria. I promise. I love you, so much. Don't worry," he pleaded rocking us back and forth slightly. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I ruined this moment," was all I could say as silent tears made their way down my cheeks and onto his shirt. "Shhh, it's alright. I don't know how it will all work out, but we will be together, forever. I promise," he assured me, pressing a kiss to my temple. I sniffled and wiped my eyes as I looked up at Evan. He was watching me with concerned, loving eyes and for some unknown reason that look only made me start crying again. This time however I was happy. I was crying with joy because I knew I had someone who I could rely on; someone who would never leave me, someone who would be by my side forever, someone who would stay, stay with me and stay for me, someone who would stay true to me and stay forever in my heart. ~~~~~~~ Maria and Evan meet quite unexpectedly and form a relationship that is stronger than either of them could imagine. They share countless sweet moments throughout the summer, but when it comes down to it, Evan's home is 1,007 miles away from Maria. What happens at the end of the summer? Will Evan stay?
