When her father does not return to their underground shelter, Emma must learn to survive on her own in a world ravaged by a disease that has massively diminished the human population, leaving it's survivors horribly disfigured and unable to produce healthy offspring. For ten years Emma has been sheltered from the desperation that has taken the surviving population, but with some help from a long-forgotten childhood friend, she may just be able to survive. Stumbling through her new life, she must learn quickly and try not to fall victim to the dangers her father had worked so hard to keep her from.
