Years ago, when Experiment 247 was proven a success, life was changed for people all over the world. Micro-chips are implanted in the brains of infants, and a society of technically advanced humans has arisen. With the new and innovative civilization, out-dated functions like spoken language have become obsolete.

Magdalene has lived in silence for fourteen years, until a punishment renders her chip ineffective. Suddenly, she's thrown into a strange and foreign version of the world that she never could have dreamt would exist.

But the secrets she finds and the tasks before her are more perilous than she ever would have imagined.

[ 2019 ONC ambassador's pick and ONC shortlister ] The three degrees of Danger are as follows: Denial. You pretend that it's not there and you lie to yourself that it'll pass. It won't. The second stage is evolution. You tell yourself that the worst is over but you're gradually changing inside, slowly adapting to the new environment. The final degree of Danger is succumbing to temptation. You give up listening to your fading instincts, give in to the voices in your head and you give it your all. Because the world is changing and if you don't change with it, you're dead by daylight. *** Danger is a virus that is spreading through everybody's Software. It turns you insane, kills your moral compass. No one knows where it came from or how to stop it but one thing is clear- nothing will ever be the same. In a world where it's kill or be killed, you can't just stay on your toes and pray that you will survive. Murder is crucial if you want to live. These are the rules that Vic lives by as she races up the social ladder, ready to clinch the only thing that will vindicate her- the position of an Elite Killer, a title only given to the best serial killers. It is only when she meets a mysterious boy who refuses to play by the rules of society even when it means inevident death, does she start to challenge the system. In a world where mercy does not exist, Vic has to stop the deadly massacres without getting assasinated before the basic laws of a functioning civilisation starts to break down. Every omega knows what their life will be - a childhood in servitude to eventually be auctioned off to the highest-bidding alpha, bonded to them, and then spending the rest of their life making babies and essentially catering to the alpha's every whim. Some don't even have names until their alpha gives them one. That's what the young avian grew up expecting, until President Schlatt visits the town and decides to buy and free all the omegas. But things get complicated when a rebel group intercepts the avian for ransom and - being naïve, inexperienced, and off suppressants for the very first time - she becomes entangled in a plot to overthrow the current government, all while being constantly manipulated and overwhelmed by her own blossoming omega instincts.
