Samain. The barriers between this world and the next are at their weakest and, as she does every year, Aisling strays from the safety of the town to the woods, where her sister waits for her. Taken by the fair folk six years earlier, this is Morag's only opportunity to talk to the family she left behind -- and her only chance at escape. This short story is based on the Ballad of Tam Lin. It belongs to my ongoing project, "Folk Stories", where I write stories of under five thousand words inspired by folk songs, particularly the Child ballads. [This is a first draft intended more as an exploration of ideas than a finished piece, but all feedback is still welcomed.]
