The small town of Lelinda, in rural Kansas, is quiet and well-mannered. Nothing interesting ever happens here. Everybody knows everyone else. The only apparent problem is the two-year drought that won't go away.
But 12 year-old Ashley Taylor can see what nobody else can see. Silent and forgotten, she watches her home-town, as it crumbles around her, while trying to keep from drowning beneath the chaos of her mind.

When people visit you every single day, it's hard to get lonely. Unless you're a ghost. Actual it gets quite annoying. In fact it's heart breaking when the people you used to love the most look straight through you. It's even worse when they blame you for their broken heart. Because they have no idea I'm dead. It's never happened in the three hundred years she'd been (not quite) dead. Artemis is your regular kid of science, the one you barely see in the background, and he is far from superstitious. Artemis doesn't believe in anything science does not explain. So how do you think he feels when he begins to see people that glow but aren't quite there?
