But, after the Great Rising, when the vampires made themselves known, a 17th birthday is the time when the humans become a living rag doll to cruel, merciless vampires. Freyja was born into the world of misery, and she knows she cannot run from the inescapable. Sometimes, though, you don't want to run away.
