Concept:
Soulmate - a person ideally suited to another person as a platonic or romantic partner.
For as long as Jack can remember, society has been focused on finding that one person who you wish to spend the rest of your life with or better known as a soulmate. At first he was fascinated by the idea but as Jack grew up he began to lose belief in such nonsense, I mean when you're a 18 year old lad why turn down girls who want him for someone who may or may not exist. Despite Jack's narrow mind, there's a small part of him that still hopes for that person.
Especially when he meets River.

Gifts and soulmates were common currency in Donumdell. From a very young age, that was all its citizens were instilled with. And each and every one of them knew that at some point in their lives, especially between the ages of twelve and twenty-five, they were bound to receive both marks on their wrist. One, in a black tone, denoted the type of gift they had been given at birth. And the second one, in a white tone, dictated that whoever shared that same mark was bound to be their soulmate and with whom they would spend the rest of their lives. Then later, with Jughead's relationship with Betty on the rocks Jughead begins to doubt his happiness with the girl that was once his everything. To add to Jughead's confusion when he's around Archie he feels all the tell tale signs of being in love. A racing heart- blush on his cheeks- but there's something else, something very unusual. The veins in his hands light up like lightning in a storm. He was aware of Archie's feelings for him but Jughead worried that if he told Archie about his glowing veins that he would leave his life forever. The permentant presence of the words 'You're in my seat' on his thigh had yet to disappear until his soulmate utters them one day. Deep down he dreaded that day.
