In the year 2025, it was revealed that EXTOL - a company dedicated to the advancement of technology to transmit a human into the virtual world created the Nirvana Omniverse. A test was done to allow one-hundred people the opportunity to try the Nirvana Omniverse. These people were transmitted into another world and reported happily that it was as if they had been reborn.

[Resonance] was becoming quite the phenomenon. From the one-hundred people that began playing, steadily, more and more began to join as well until almost seventy-five percent of the world was engrossed into the game. However, a virus struck causing the shut down of several of the game's core processes. Some individuals who were not able to be forced out of the game were rendered brain dread and hospitalized. EXTOL was blamed for such a thing happening and the company was placed under close investigation for acts of terrorism against the human race.

The game that was captivated by many was now remarked as the [Virtual Tomb]. Shunning the use of the Nirvana Omniverse, [Resonance] became nothing more than a fabled memory. In 2046 however, one of the individuals who had been hospitalized awoke. The individual showed no coherent thinking and only muttered a sentence before falling back into their sleep.

'Open the gate.'

The event however caused attention to turn toward EXTOL who upon three months after the incident revealed that they were reopening [Resonance]. There were cries of outrage, and several riots began due to the populace denying it. Few people considered it, the majority were hesitant. Years continued on and EXTOL made its presence known. Finally at the dawn of the new century, the game has re-opened and flourished once again.

And the few who could hold it in their hands, soon learnt how they could use it to their gain - and to help the fate of mankind. Or so they said. With great power comes great responsibility, but also greed and ambition. Now that nature had been conquered by the magical powers of those who carried that trait, they started looking elsewhere. Sickness, diseases, ailments big or small, these could all be eradicated. Given time, even death could be conquered, and immortality claimed! Unable to realise they were about to release a Second Calamity upon the world, those powerful scholars pursued their goals, with no regard for the consequences. And these were worst than they could have imagined - for the dead started raising from their graves and preying on the living. Some of them were even sentient. Years into the advent of the Second Calamity, mankind has devised ways of protecting those without powers, by use of the ones imbued with magic. Under the flag of the Confederation of Nations, hunters, scholars, healers, spellcasters, are trained and brought together in Covenants that fight the undead and make the world safer. But when the lurking creatures start acting out of character and unexpected events begin to take place, can the Confederation still be trusted? Follow the Quarter Moon Covenant as they hunt the monsters who seek to destroy them and struggle to understand what secrets have been kept from them. And from the whole of humanity, as well.

Life in middle school is hard for sixteen year old Joko Ofaman. His name alone gets him teased. Being of lower class doesn't help him any. It seems that his only escape is into the virtual world of online gaming. It is the year 2048 and puzzle games are on the rise, limiting Joko's favorite genre of RPGs. However, the only people Joko cares about are taken away from him. A companies commercial promised the best RPG, however, Joko couldn't buy it. His friends are taken away and he is just about ready to die when a mysterious woman gives him a new chance. Will this game help Joko logout of this world, or will it force him to come back for the better of the planet? Note: not as accurate as I like, but that would be giving away spoilers! Note: This wasn't inspired by SAO or Log Horizon, but by a-ha's Take On Me music video.
