Life and death are separated by a thin line. As a soul passes between them, a blank slate is presented anew. Emotions and experiences once forgotten are rekindled, in a never ending cycle of reincarnation. Exceptions exist to every rule and for Isla that line is blurred beyond distinction. Her memories of life and death remain etched into her very soul. Why is she an exception? Why does she experience death so often? Why is she constantly being pursued? Set upon at every turn Isla must find the answers in order to discover herself.

Life ended quietly. Rebirth? Not so much. I'd lived a perfectly normal nerd-life: a family, a career, too many hobbies, and a purse full of "just-in-case" items. Gardening, old crafting techniques, reading, manga, animé-especially the alternate-world kind. If I had one regret, it was not traveling as much as I'd wanted. But all things end eventually. I expected nothingness... or whatever reward awaited after a long, fulfilling life. Instead, I woke up to the very real problem of a massive creature trying to eat me. I'd been reborn into another world. I should have been thrilled, right? With very little to go on-aside from the fact that magic existed here-I decided the smartest approach was to keep a low profile and train like crazy. Survive first. Explore later. My new family seemed pleasantly surprised (and occasionally alarmed) by my dedication to both physical and magical training. And once I started attending school, I made fast friends... then accidentally convinced them to apprentice under my father. The more the merrier, I figured. But hiding my abilities is proving harder than expected, and the more I grow, the more certain people seem unsettled by my existence. Surviving to adulthood may be the real challenge. *This is a slow-burn, coming-of-age story with early magic training. It is not a romance-yet. **This series is marked Mature not for explicit content in this volume, but because later books will include heavier themes. I prefer to err on the side of caution. ***I am a Canadian author. Death has a sick sense of humor. On the most destructive week of Holiday Warren's life, a crosswalk turns into a deadly sprint through the depths of hell to right the wrongs of her troubled past. No one was ready for Holiday's death, not even her. Dying is supposed to be simple, easy. She expected darkness or maybe endless food. Not an introduction to Death himself and the invitation to something sweeter. Kill or be killed, he couldn't care less. But win... Win and be free to return to life as she knew it. | Featured Story - Editors Pick | | SHORTLISTED FOR THE Open Novella Contest 2019 | | Winner of Wattpad's Psychological Novel Contest 2020 | | Highest Rank: #20 in Fantasy |
