Mature
Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley of Alice in Chains are best friends and did everything together, from playing practical jokes on each other to endangering their lives with every drug known to man. After Layne's fiance, Demri, passes away, Layne finds a way out of the hole when he realizes the consequences of his actions. He is able to pick himself up and continue his love and passion for singing. Jerry is not so lucky. He's so far down in the hole that he gives up playing guitar and withdraws from everything and everybody, except for the needles. Despite his isolation, his friends never leave him, especially Olivia, the love of his life.

Olivia and Layne love Jerry, but it gets harder and harder to be at his side when he wants to be left alone. He's no longer funny and witty. He's not just sad; he's depressed. He's not just angry, he's explosive. Those close to him only have so much strength before they'll have to carry on without him.

Because who doesn't love a revenge era Frerard? It's 2004 and My Chem are on tour. It should be a happy time, and yet Gerard finds himself spiralling, caught in a toxic relationship and even more toxic addictions. The only people that can seem to get through to him at all are his bandmates, but that's becoming complicated too, as he's accidentally fallen in love with one of them. Disclaimer/warning - this story deals with alcohol and substance abuse. I don't want to romanticise it at all - if anything, this is about how love doesn't automatically fix these issues.
