This story is a bit confusing but once you start reading it you will understand more.
So this story is about humans that get kidnapped up into an alien spaceship and the aliens torture them to find the right person for having special powers inserted into them. You see aliens can't have powers they don't work on them so they have to have humans. So they need humans to do things for them

The being wasn't like other's any of them had seen. They wanted to know how it was possible in the world that was nothing but desert, and infection. 0-Sa was also alone, which was unusual for the species. The Irinaut became valuable quite quickly, having found no spore infection visibly on him. The team had one job, obtain and return the creature alive, but they would soon come to find out that the cargo would be more difficult to transport than they thought. They need something to stop the war so they hire Beast to kidnap the other family, and will be used as a pawn to stop the fight and reclaim territory. Survival in space was our only option. The dying earth and its sickly inhabitants forced us to flee to the stars. My father, the commander of the elite group chosen to live amongst the stars, brought me along for the journey. The Games
Prologue: Earth has found out they're not alone in the universe. An alien species have contacted Earth, giving them a chance to be protected by the aliens out there that threatens the universe. They inform them that there are in fact thousands of alien species out there. The alien race, who calls themselves Opsidians, offer Earth a chance at competing in the Games, a televised reality competition game they host. In order to win the protection, Earth will have to send a tribute to the Games. They know little to nothing about the Games or these alien species.
