She's tried to kill herself.

       After she gets out of the hospital for a failed suicide attempt, she notices that Luke, the head quarter back on their school football team, has became particularly interested in her. It started by him catching her gaze from across the cafeteria during lunch to now walking her down the hallway in between trig and biology, all she can think is "why me?".
