He treated messy almost like an art form: there was something casually put-together about the piles of clothes, the messily tacked-up pictures, and stacks of CDs that littered his room. A sword leaned up against one wall, a bag with throwing knives in it hung off his bedpost, and a glock was tossed on his pillow almost carelessly. But it couldn't have been careless- he was careful with all his weapons, despite not appearing to give a fuck. Sebastian noted the large, watercolor-style painting of a fox above the mattress passed off as a bed. It stood out against the dark blue walls.
...
Sebastian nodded in understanding, which was ignored. Rome reached up to sweep his hair out of his face. That was artfully messy too: the part that wasn't shaved swept to the right in a scruffy blue wave. The odd strand or two arched up in the back, kept from sticking straight up only by its length. He found himself with the strange urge to rough it up, to sweep it a different direction or just run his hands through it. And for a second, he considered taking a step forward, taking control. Stealing the art and never giving it back. How he'd love to steal it: that body, whose skin didn't seem too small, that contained hands with thin, dexterous fingers perfect for creating, wiry and lean with unseen muscle. Eyes, dark green but lighter at the center, reminding him of a forest he oft got lost in when Rome took it upon himself to get pin-you-against-a-wall close and just stare. In those moments Sebastian would try to look past him, but Rome would always manage to make eye contact. He never broke first, he waited until Sebastian did, and then he'd push away and get back to whatever he was doing.

Sebastian Gephart's family has finally settled in the small town of Dansefolk. There, he realizes he may never see his mother after a year is up and encounters an enigmatic stranger by the name of Rome. With nothing else to go by, Sebastian can only follow Rome deeper into his enigma.
