It's a mystery to all, and it just can't be explained. Your heart glows when you meet your soulmate, and that's about all there is to it. You can't reverse it, you can't just forget about it, you can't escape it. Soulmates are incredibly rare, yet they really exist. Some people spend their entire lives searching for it, for the one. Yet others are terrified to find their one and only. Whenever your heart glows, it doesn't mean that you've just made contact with your soulmate, and it certainly doesn't mean that you just met them. It just means that your heart is ready to accept it, accept them, that you're ready to love them, even if you don't think so yet. Some pairings aren't exactly 'typical', they were just connected for some reason, and that reason can sometimes be extremely difficult to find within this madness called love.

Possibly a phone call, or someone wandering on stage. He didn't really understand how the clock worked, all he knew was that the second your clock hits zero, you would kiss your soulmate. In this society, everyone has a soulmate. And the way to find yours is just look. Along with a soulmate, everyone has a small tattoo on their cheek with a symbol. Some could be a star, a flower, a yinyang, a fish, or even waves. There are so many people that the symbols are almost limitless. The tattoos don't care about gender or number. There could be gay matches, and there could even be polyamorous matches. The tattoos will tingle when you are near to your sm. And they will glow if you have found only one of your sm's if your match was poly. The trick is, you don't get the tattoo until you are 16. And even if you are near your match, as long as one of you are not of age, your tattoo will not tingle. Also, they are normal tattoos (except you don't get it or choose it, it just appears) so you can get rid of it. But if you do, your sm won't die but they will get very sick. The main characters of this story, Violet West (18) and Harper Black (20), both have a flame tattoo on their cheek. They live in the same state but for 4 years Harper paniced because she couldn't find her match. She wasn't sure if it was because her sm wasn't of age yet or if her sm lived far away. For 2 years Violet also paniced but she knew that some people don't find their sm for 5-10 years after they come of age, so she wasn't as scared as Harper.
