“The chasm that lies between Hindus and Muslims may be oceans wide, but it’s only ankle deep. The most timid of men could cross it, but only the bravest will take the first step.”

This allegorical love story charts the odyssey of Usmaan Raheem, an American-educated architect who returns to Pakistan, only to feel like a misfit in his own, beloved city. Amidst the grappling on the Pakistan-India border, he is rescued from his isolation by an unlikely source, a Hindu servant girl named Asha.

Asha’s love is the trigger that propels Usmaan through the splendors of Lahore and the machinations of its people. The partition of India still flares hot in the backs of their eyes, until it finally melts the bonds of their delicate friendship. In a desperate act of restitution, Usmaan takes aim at the very faith that raised him, but just how far does he go to recover the pieces of his past, and whom does he ultimately challenge in his battle to be whole again?

                                                                                       __________
