Former Junior Hall Monitor, minimum-wage waitress and passionate Mexican folk dancer, Penny Sanchez knows how it feels to get the short end of the stick. With a best friend who's too busy swapping gum with her on-and-off-again boyfriend, a sister with a serious ego, and a mother who refuses to listen to anyone except a paying customer, the only person Penny can trust is her 80-year-old adrenaline-junkie Nana. To make things worse, Penny has been asked to lead her "Ballet Folklorico" band of misfits to National Finals, the closest any American Folk Dancer has ever gotten to the Championship title. With school, work and an insane family, Penny is going to need to micromanage (or clone herself multiple times). But when a fellow high school journalist asks Penny to temporarily cover local sports events for the school newspaper, Penny may just meet a certain star athlete who will find her neurotic habits more charming than the perfectionist she pretends to be. But then again, it really is all up to chance.....
