In King of Anything Elena has a go at Stefan because he doesn’t give her any freedom, and she feels like a dog on a leash. Tired of drama and fighting, she ends things with the broody vampire, and relishes in the prospect of being free by going on a road trip to god-knows-where with the older, sexier and leather clad Salvatore brother.
In White Flag we see the final moments of Season 2, Episode 8, where Damon proclaims his love for Elena and then compels her to forget the admission, using his vampire powers, from Damon’s perspective.
In That Kiss we see Damon and Elena share a few precious moments together at Christmas Party at the Mystic Grill, when Stefan has left. With the right song, the right drink and the right moment (ie: mistletoe above their heads) will Elena finally realise she and Damon have something?
In Let Me Take You There Part 1, Uncle John returns to annoy Elena and Jenna. Having John around and having broken up with Stefan, Elena wants an escape. Damon is more than ready to give her one - and he offers to take her anywhere in the world. Where will Elena chose and what will become of their little "escape"?
