"Why are you acting like this?" Levi didn't respond right away. His grip on the reins didn't loosen, and the line of his jaw stayed sharp as stone. The others were far enough ahead now, just distant shadows through the trees. No one could hear them. He took a slow breath. Then, quietly, "Because everyone I care about dies."
