Imaginary friends aren't just imaginary, they are actually other dead children, like Lily. Most kids forget about their dead friends by the time they turn 13, but some become too attached. The ones who don't forget are driven insane by their dead friends and are classified as "mentally insane" by society. Except for Jessie. She has managed to remain sane while keeping her connection to Lily intact. Everything's fine until Jessie has to leave and Lily has to try and start a new life.

Lily, a five year old child loses her parents in a horrible accident. Afterwords she is forced to live with her Grandmother who works all the time and has no time for a child. Lily, not knowing what really happened to her parents, and not understanding at all, she decides to take things into her own hands. At first she killed animals because she thought her parents were lonely where ever they were. After trying to kill her own Grandmother she was sent to The House, an insane asylum for kids. There she met seven other kids with situations similar to her own. Will Lily get better and go live with her family again or will she remain in a sense of denial enough that her sanity is in jeopardy? This story is told from Lily's point of view but it actually told by another girl with her little comments every now and again.
