Death lingers and revolves in a natural form, a residual being who can see your dreams, nightmares and if it so wishes the common daydreams of mortals. Dreams spill into nightmares so easily that the shift can spur the unknown. What creates the bridge between thought and conciousness? Death is meaning and silence. The mortal path always leads to the same end. Overlapping and intermingling infinitely till life meets death. Though in some instances it's not as simple as that. What kind of life can one lead when death is around every corner? Glimpses into the past, present, and even the future are all tied to death. Can you outrun death even when it licks at your very heels? Who will it take next?

The girl with no wolf. An extra mouth to feed. A liability. A defenseless miscreation. Seraphina had heard it all. She had felt it all too. The bone aching bruises, the defenseless claw scratches just shy of her neck on the edges of her collarbone, she had seen it all too. It had been so long since it had started that she couldn't recall a time when the degradation was compliments and not insults. Now, it was all she ever expected. If she had known five years ago that not having a wolf would cause this much hate she would have begged her parents to move to another pack. It felt like an eternity since it all happened. Or rather what didn't happen. She still could not shift. She was defective. A mistake in the gene pool. But she didn't know she would end up like this. She couldn't have, just like she couldn't have expected to come face to face with the Alpha Slayer. A man casted in shadow. Not many had ever seen his face, but that didn't make him any less real. Alphas after all were dethroned from the likes of him. Word spreads quickly. For every person out there that was quiet, not because they chose to be so, but because they were choking in the smoke. Because their opinions were apparently not worth anything. Because they didn't know just how to say what they felt. For every person that is consumed by their own thoughts, the derision from the outside world only making it worse. For every soul that was drowning in remorse and anguish on restless nights. For every soul that says I love you in the dark and in the mirror because no one else does. For the floors we would pace while anxiety sunk its teeth into us. For the mirrors that we would break while shame echoed its laugh in our caged walls. For the hearts that would ache while loneliness was the only company. For every moment of pain and solitude in this world that feels too cruel for such young and frail minds.

Knowing how precarious this vampire is, Evie still can't shake the feeling that his striking blue eyes are reminiscent of something but what. But what lengths will she go to find out more about him and every other vampire? I guess it's true what they say. Opposites really do attract.
