Today, someone asked me what I wanted to be as an adult, and do you want to guess what I said? A doctor? A nurse? No, my answer was simply 'happy', I want to be happy as an adult. Why the fuss? Well I was at parent-teacher interviews with my mum and, obviously, my teacher, when I so wisely stated this and they shared a 'look'. This 'look' was clear as day, following along the lines of 'I think she's depressed and needs help'.

After this fiasco, I landed myself weekly therapy sessions and some antidepressant tablets. My mum now looks at me with pitying eyes and constantly asks 'how I'm feeling' and tells me to tell her 'if I need to talk about anything'. It's driving me nuts because I am not depressed.

~

Ellie is depressed, she just doesn't know it yet. And as her life spirals lower and lower until she can see nothing but black and ugly sadness, someone will shine a light in her darkness and save her. A boy armed with a paintbrush will teach her to smile, being the candle in her dark room that will light the way out. But Ellie must find who she really is, and for that, she is all alone.
